Shortboard surfboards are designed for skilled surfers with high performance in mind. These boards are usually 5 to 7 feet long, with a pointed nose and a rounded or squarish tail. Shortboards usually have 3 fins, although some also have only 2 or as many as 5. Having fins or skegs allow experienced surfers the ability to quickly change direction and perform advanced maneuvers. Surfers generally find shortboards very easy to control compared to other types of surfboards. But because of their smaller size, waves with are harder to catch, and often steeper, larger and more powerful waves are required to fully enjoy shortboard surfing.
